Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website.
Last reviewed: October 2026
Our commitment
As a charity supporting disabled children and their families, accessibility matters deeply to us. We are committed to making this website usable for as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they use.
How accessible this website is
We are working towards the international Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. The site hasn't had an independent audit, so we can't say it meets every criterion. Steps we have taken include:
- One main heading and one main content area on every page.
- A “skip to content” link that appears when you press the Tab key, and links and buttons you can reach with the keyboard, checked on six pages.
- Text colour contrast measured on every page, including text over photographs.
- A text description for every photograph.
- Respect for the “reduced motion” setting on your device.
- A layout that fits phone and computer screens without scrolling sideways (checked at 390 and 1280 pixels wide).
Known limitations
Two of the PDFs you can download, the Spring 2026 newsletter and the EACD annual meeting conference report, aren't tagged for screen readers, so they may be hard to read with assistive technology. If you need one in another format, email us and we'll do our best to help.
Feedback and contact
If you find any part of this website difficult to use, or need information in a different format, please tell us and we'll do our best to help. Email us at info@gaitway.org.uk.
Enforcement
If you contact us with a complaint and are not happy with our response, you can contact the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI), which gives advice on disability discrimination law in Northern Ireland.
How we tested this website
We last tested a copy of the site in October 2026, before it went live. An automated check opened every page, service and news post, and the “page not found” page, at a computer width (1280 pixels) and a phone width (390 pixels). It measured the colour contrast of the text, including text over photographs, and checked that no image is missing its text alternative, that each page has one main heading and one main content area, that nothing scrolls sideways and that every link within the site works.
An automated keyboard test then went through six pages (the home page, a service, a news post, Contact, Donate and the Gallery) at both widths. It checked that the “skip to content” link works, that every link and button can be reached with the Tab key and shows a visible focus outline, and that nothing traps the keyboard.
We haven't yet tested the site with a screen reader or with enlarged text.
