About Us
The GaitWay Organisation was set up as a Company Limited by Guarantee in 2019 by parents, for parents who could not get enough quality physical input for their children who all live with various levels of physical disabilities caused by some form of injury to the motor centre of their brains.
Many had a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy but we also wanted to help children and young people who had acquired brain injury and suffered from similar difficulties and would therefore benefit from similar therapeutic interventions. We became a fully registered charity with the Northern Ireland Charity Commission in 2020.
We are driven by values
What our organisation does
We aim to offer children and young people from anywhere in Ireland access to evidence based neuro-rehabilitation services.
We will either bring qualified practitioners to Ireland and organise schools to provide therapies locally or we may deliver signposting services and facilitate travel to foreign clinics where this is more appropriate.
We currently run an annual summer school based in North Down which provides physical therapy based on the Andras Peto method also known as Conductive Education.
In addition to providing opportunities for Physical development we also provide a range of outings and activities that improve Emotional and Social development as well. This program helps attendees to build confidence as they gain a better understanding of their abilities and develop a range of problem solving techniques to use in everyday tasks beyond the end of the program.
We will conduct research into the effectiveness of various therapies and try to promote a wider understanding and adoption of these therapies by main stream health providers throughout Ireland.
